Are LanmanWorkstation and LanmanServer Bugging You in Windows Services?

LanmanWorkstation and LanmanServer are two different background services in Windows operating system. Both of these program are started automatically in a default configuration. And if you are thinking of its memory consumption for slowing computers, these services are like a piece of agent responsible for computer's network connectivity.

If it is bugging you because of their short descriptions on the list of Windows services and recursive names in Task Manager, you have nothing to worry because it is needed by every system to communicate. There is no threat in keeping these program to run but it is also the most vulnerable part of computers to be exposed over the network.

To be specific with the function of LanmanWorkstation, it is design to store data for active configuration or setting in workstation services. According to Microsoft, it is responsible for computers (started in Windows 2000 to Windows 10) to communicate and to provide a network connection detection capability.

For LanmanServer, it is a third party service for Local-Area Network (LAN) Manager of Windows platform. And just like of the LanmanWorkstation, it is also design to store the configuration data of another services. Terminating this in your Windows Task Manager will also terminate its related thread of background programs.
