HTC Volantis is the New Upcoming Google Nexus Device?

An Italian website spotted a new device where Google is possibly working with. This might be a mysterious 8.9-inch tablet which recently appeared in a newly started site. However, the said portable machine has no specific name aside from those clues that leads to HTC Volantis. And it is my first time to hear this mystical device to stand under the flagship of Nexus.

Furthermore, as I try to look around, some of HTC Volantis technical specifications are now available but nobody can tell the exact plan of the search engine giant to offer a new line of Nexus products. Probably, far from what we know, they are already working on it.

HTC 8.9-inch Volantis Tablet

Aside from those rumors, someone in Twitter shares a factual image of HTC Volantis as the new upcoming Google Nexus device. And some of those specs shows that it is equipped with Logan K1 NVidia Tegra chip, 2GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB of storage, 8-megapixel of main camera, and supports a 2048 x 1440-pixel screen resolution.

The above technical details is not enough to confirm the upcoming new Google tablet. But photos coming from unknown source are really convincing for a new line of Nexus device. And the only thing I know for sure, this tablet will be running the newest version of Android to face the existence of iOS 8.

Walmart Started to Offer Apple iPhone 5S for $99 Only

Walmart is slashing the prices of Apple iPhone 5S and 5C as noted by reports. The store started to offer a 16GB model for $99.00 only with two-year binding contract. This might be an entry-level for the blockbuster and colorful handsets but the price is already reasonable for the craving consumers. Hopefully, the global stores will follow Walmart a much cheaper iPhone and even lesser monthly amortization.

According to a reliable source, Walmart is permanently dropping the price of iPhone 5S and 5C. Probably, that is because of the upcoming iPhone 6 which is expected to replaced its predecessors in stores. And while waiting for that 4.7-inch or 5.5-inch smartphone to arrive, Walmart is looking for a new way to offer a much cheaper handset in United States.

Apple iPhone 5S and 5C in Walmart

This deal in Walmart is not new for the past years. Last year, when Apple officially announced the availability of iPhone 5S and 5C, the store started to offer a discounted model of iPhone 4S ahead of its appearances in Apple's recognized outlets. Sad to say, no words for the availability of 8GB model in a budget-friendly prices.

For now, compared to other local stores and network providers, Walmart is offering a much lower prices for iPhone. And this would probably last for a matter of two or three years.

A Well Discounted Yellow 16GB iPod Touch is Now Available

Surprisingly, while waiting for the blockbuster iPhone 6, a new version of iPod Touch is now available. And guess what, it is a yellow 16GB model with a well discounted price from original. However, do not expect an iOS 8 pre-loaded variant but the new line of 32GB and 64GB are now treated with 5-megapixel main camera.

From $229.00, the newest version of iPod Touch is now available for $199.00 only. This might be a reasonable price for a touchscreen-enabled device with 16GB of built-in storage. Compared to the original and dominant models of iPod Touch in stores, the new models are treated with only few changes aside from having a good price.

Yellow 16GB iPod Touch

And the said yellow 16GB version of iPod Touch has been added to the new line of 32GB and 64GB models with 5-megapixel of camera. Both are now available for pre-order in Apple's official Web store and it is expected to appear in the global market few days from now. That is to replaced the older and pioneering models in stores.

Before I can forget, the 32GB model is available for $249.00 and 64GB for $299.00 or nearly $300.00 only.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 is Debuted in Hong Kong for HK 6,288.00

Microsoft officially announced the third generation of Surface Pro last month and it is now headed to the global market to compete in other notable brands. And following the appearances of the said 12-inch ultra-portable device in Taiwan few weeks ago, it is now available in Hong Kong with prices ranging from HK 6,288.00 to HK $15,088.

A handful of Microsoft Surface Pro 3 accessories is also available from about HK 38.00 to HK $1,048.00 only. That is good for an extra charger, stylus and handwritten pens, hardwired network adapter, multi-function base, and exclusive type cover (keyboard). And just like of my expectation, the new version of this machine is pre-loaded with Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating system.

Microsoft Surface Pro 3 in Hong Kong Stores

According to reports, the base configuration is powered by Intel Core i3 CPU with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. A much higher memory and storage capacity is also available ranging from 4GB to 8GB and 128GB to 512GB of solid-state drive (SSD). Prices varies base on buyer's selected configuration and additional accessories.

In terms of processor, from Intel Core i3, a more powerful version is also available but that is for a much higher prices compared to what we can get in the base model. That is good for an Intel Core i7-powered variants with 256GB to 512GB of SSD storage. An Intel Core i5 model is also available for about HK 7,888.00 to HK $10,288.

And before I can forget, prices of older Microsoft Surface Pro started to decline last February while the third generation threatens to replaced them in stores.

Five High-End But Budget-Friendly Android Tablets in 2014

Upon knowing an Intel Atom-powered MeeGoPad F10, I decided to review some of my previously reported budget-friendly tablets from China. It is a low-end machine with 64GB of storage, quad-core processor, and Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system. And it is following the line of some high-end but cheaper Android tablets from China and European manufacturers.

Compared to Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab, most of these Android machines are also treated with quad-core and responsive processors. Aside from having a few disadvantage in manufacturing supports and warranties, these tablets continue to struggle to compete with other famous brands in stores.
  1. NVidia Tegra Note 7 - This machine started to appear in reports way back in December 2013. And probably, it is now available in European and Asian stores for about $200.00 only. It has a quad-core ARM Cortex-A15 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of built-in storage. A typical 7-inch tablet with Android 4.4 (KitKat) platform.

    1. Teclast P78HD - This might be the forerunner of Acer Iconia A1-830 or HP 7 Plus. Compared to Tegra Note 7, both are equipped with the same version of Android operating system and ARM Cortex chip. However, it has a few shortcomings in terms of storage capacity but it has a promising and elegant design for about $100.00 only.

      1. Ramos i10 Pro - Another line of dual-OS tablet with Intel Atom Z3770D, 32GB of built-in storage, and 2GB of RAM. User can also choose from either Microsoft Windows 8.1 or Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating system just like of MeeGoPad F10.

        1. GoClever Orion 785 - This machine is coming from a European manufacturer with MediaTek MT8389 CPU from China. A 7-inch Android 4.2 tablet with a promising full high-definition (HD) IPS display technology, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. It is now available in Europe for about 140-euro only.

        2. HP 7 Plus - To complete this five high-end Android tablets, this might be the cheapest machine among the others. Just like of Teclast P78HD, it is also available for about $100.00 only for an ARM Cortex-A7-powered slate and the same memory and storage capacity to Orion 785.

While looking for any significant difference, both of these machines are treated with underling modules from China.

MeeGo Pad F10 Tablet with MS Windows 8.1 Operating System

MeeGo Pad F10 is probably a new line of low-end tablet treated with Microsoft Windows 8.1 and Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) operating systems. A dual-boot device from China with quad-core processor under the hood. However, this machine is also equipped with Intel Atom Z3740 (Bay Trail-T), 2GB of RAM, and 64GB of built-in flash storage.

And following the appearances of Xiaomi MiPad, MeeGo Pad F10 is bigger compared to the previously reported Android machine. It has a 10.1-inch IPS display just like of what we can get in iPad and other dominant tablets from Samsung. And it is also expected to arrive in European and Western countries by this year for about 150-euro or $200.00 only.

        MeeGoPad F10 Dual-Boot 10.1-inch Tablet

Aside from having a 64GB of storage, MeeGo Pad F10 offers a dual-boot system giving an extra advantage for user to choose from either Android or Windows platform. Compared to Xiaomi's 7.9-inch MiPad, it has a higher storage capacity to answer the needs of two different operating systems. Sad to say, despite the availability of Android 4.4 (KitKat), the manufacturer pre-loaded this device with older platform.

Furthermore, MeeGo Pad F10 is also equipped with 5-megapixel of main and 2-megapixel of front-facing cameras, typical Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and optional Huawei 3G or 4G Ultrastick detachable peripheral.

And before I can forget, availability of MeeGo Pad F10 will probably start in wholesales from Chinese auction sites just like of other Chinese-made tablets.

Most of these models are now equipped with fourth generation of Intel chips, the most power-efficient efficient processors in the market. According to reports, this app will become possible in coordination with Nike, Adidas, Intel, RunKeeper, Polar, and other fitness hardware manufacturer.

And Google Fit will provide an application protocol interface (API) for those hardware to work with two computing platforms. This might be a good start for some programmers to create a much better fitness app in the near future by taking advantage the availability of Google's collection of usable data.

Google Fit Platform for iOS and Android Platforms

Furthermore, due to Google Fit API, smart devices coming from the above mentioned manufacturers will become available for app developer for tweaks. And before I can forget, the said app is expected to arrive in the upcoming new version of iOS and Android devices. To make it clear, it is different from Samsung Gear Fit device or smartwatch and it is a data collection platform for electronic wristbands and alike.

HTC One vs OPPO Find 7: CPU, RAM, and Storage Capacity

Both HTC One and OPPO Find 7 are equipped with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 quad-core CPU. However, in terms of memory, storage, and display sizes, both are treated with different capacities. The advantage of having an Android 4.4 (KitKat) smartphone coming from these two brands could probably satisfy our needs in accessing Google Play Store and some other online resources.

OPPO Find 7 has a 3GB of RAM just like of what we can get from Samsung Galaxy Note 3 compared to HTC One's 2GB. Somehow, due to a little difference in terms of memory capacity, the 5.5-inch model may stand out to accommodate the requirements of some Android apps. It has an elegant design which can surpass the overall appearance of HTC One.

The previously reported model of OPPO Find 7 way back in December of 2013 is treated with 2GB of RAM. However, a 3GB version is now available and it is expected to replaced its predecessors in store. In terms of display sizes, it has a much bigger glossy screen compared to HTC's 5-inch handset with higher supported resolution.

HTC One and OPPO Find 7 Android Phones

Furthermore, both HTC One (M8) and OPPO Find 7 are coming from the same region. Recently, Chunghwa Telecom started to offer a 4G LTE-enabled 5.5-inch handset for about NT $17,000.00 in local consumers. And according to reports, the said Android smartphones are now expected to hit the global market few weeks from now.

Motorola 4G LTE-Enabled Moto G is Now Available for $219 Only

Prior to the appearances of Motorola Moto G in Best Buy and its anticipated Google Play Edition, a 4G LTE-enabled model is now available in Amazon for $219.00 only. And guess what, it is also available in Motorola's official Web store for pre-order. This might be the newest line of the said 4.5-inch handset with the same underlying specs compared to the previously reported model.

According to reports, aside from being a 4G LTE-enabled device, Motorola Moto G has a few shortcomings in terms of storage capacity and screen size compared to what we can get from Samsung Android phones. Probably, to compete with other brands, the company decided to embrace the Android 4.4 (KitKat) platform to stay on the game.

        Motorola Moto G 4G LTE-Enabled Smartphone

And for other specs of Motorola Moto G, see the following list below:
        • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8926 A7 at 1.2GHz (quad-core)
        • Memory: 1GB or 2GB
        • Display: 4.5-inch high-definition (HD) with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution
        • Storage: 8GB (with Micro-SD card slot that supports a maximum of 32GB of extra space)
        • Operating System: Android 4.4 (KitKat)
        • Camera: 5-megapixel (main) and 1.2-megapixel (front)
        • Connectivity: 2G, 3G HSPA+, and 4G (in selected network providers)
        • Battery: 2070mAh
Having a quad-core processor paired with 1GB or 2GB of memory is already enough to support its 4G connectivity. However, it is good to think of other specs that could possibly change your mind in buying a $200.00 smartphone.

Before I can forget, buyer can also choose to own an unlocked 16GB model in a much higher prices. And U.S. Cellular started to offer a $100.00 model (not a 4G LTE-enabled device) way back in February.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 QHD Display Has Been Confirmed

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to have a quad high-definition (QHD) display technology when someone from logistic service business based in India revealed the packaging details of the 5.7-inch smartphone. And the said handset has a serial number of SM-N910A which is also headed to IFA 2014 in Berlin.

Last month, someone from the wild revealed the plan of Samsung to introduce a new line of Galaxy Note. The fourth generation of their very own 5.7-inch line of handset to follow the appearances of Samsung Galaxy S5 in stores.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 4.4 Smartphone

Furthermore, aside from having a QHD display technology, Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is probably equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 (quad-core) processor or Exynos 5433 chip, 3GB of RAM just like of its predecessors, and 32GB of built-in storage. Other specs may includes a 16-megapixel main camera with OIS support, fingerprint scanner, and Android 4.4.3 (KitKat) operating system.

Initially, the price of Samsung Galaxy Gear in TIM is nearly closer to some new of Android phones. From about 300-euro, the store surprisingly dropped the price for about 200-euro. Sad to say, it is the predecessor of Galaxy Gear 2 Neo and Fit.

Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch in TIM

Aside from 15.6-inch gaming laptops, the event also revealed a series of smartphones and tablets which are expected to arrive in stores before the end of 2014.

Team Peppy WP05 OEM 1020mAh Lithium-Ion Power Bank

Team Peppy WP05 is a 1020mAh lithium-ion power bank to answer the needs of iPhone users. Most of those battery packs in stores are typically designed for Samsung and other smartphones which makes an Apple handset owner to think for their charger most of the time. And this might be the newest solution for that problem by having a Lightning compatible power bank.

Aside from iPhone, Peppy WP05 is also compatible to other Android smartphones from Samsung and Sony as well to other brands. An OEM pocket-size device that can change our way of thinking about a possible power source for an Apple-made handset.

However, compared to other power banks, the only disadvantage of Peppy WP05 is the capacity to hold a much longer or enough supply due to its 1020mAh battery. It is good to have it for quick charging and in emergency purposes.

        Team Peppy WP05 1020mAh Lithium-Ion Power Bank

As I try to compare Peppy WP05 to those power banks with 3000mAh and up lithium-ion battery, it has a few shortcomings in terms of full-charging capacity. And this might be our good buddy while traveling with our iPhone and low-powered Android phone.

According to reports, it is also designed to work with FDD, TDD, and HSPA+ bands ranging from 900MHz to 1800MHz.

        Cherry Mobile Ultra: 5-Inch 4G LTE-Enabled Android 4.3 Smartphone

Following the appearances of Omega Icon last week, Cherry Mobile has an upcoming new line of smartphones starting this month. That includes a 4G LTE-enabled models, the Cherry Mobile Ultra to be followed by Superion Scope in July 2014. According to reports, the said 5-inch handset is expected to hit local market in the Philippines for more than $200.00 or less than Php9,000.00.

Cherry Mobile Ultra is not a dual-SIM handset and it is equipped with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. It has a Micro-SD card slot which supports a maximum of 32GB of extra storage aside from 8GB of built-in internal flash drive.

In addition, the main camera of Cherry Mobile Ultra is also treated with LED flash technology just like of other local brands. Compared to Samsung and Huawei smartphones, this might be added to the line of a budget-friendly handset to work with either Smart or Globe Telecom 4G LTE bands.

And the said 5-inch handset is also expected to compete with other 4G LTE-enabled models such as the Apple iPhone 5c and 5s blockbuster phones as well to the locally-produced MyPhone.

Sony Introduces Xperia T3, Mid-Range Version of M2 and T2 Ultra

Sony introduces a new breed of Android 4.4 (KitKat) smartphone, the Xperia T3. That is to expand their product range to a 5.3-inch model which is between the line of Xperia M2 and Xperia T2 Ultra. Few months ago, the Japanese brand invade Taiwan through their 4.3-inch flagship for about NT $15,000.00 and now, a new surprising smaller model compared to M2 is coming.

Compared to Xperia Z, the T3 is running an Android 4.4 platform with the same specification to M2 as well in T2 Ultra except for its 5.3-inch screen. And that size falls to the middle of a typical smartphone and phablet-size versions. This might be the Xperia D6503 handset which showed out from the wild last January.

We cannot say that Sony is re-branding their iconic handset because in terms of underlying specs and modules, the Xperia T3 is also equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU at 1.4GHz (quad-core), 1GB of RAM, 32GB of built-in storage, 8-megapixel main and 1.1-megapixel front-facing camera from Exmor RS technology, and 2500mAh battery.

Sony Xperia T3 5.3-Inch Android Smartphone

Furthermore, do not expect a significant difference from Xperia M2 and Xperia T2 Ultra. There might be a few stuff to consider in buying a 5.3-inch phone, its tricky display size with 720-pixel resolution. And before I can forget, availability of Sony Xperia T3 will start by July 2014 as noted by reports.

Asus 15.6-Inch GX500 Gaming Laptop Debuted in Computex 2014

Few days ago, an Asus ROG G550JK 15.6-inch gaming machine showed out in Computex 2014 in Taipei, Taiwan. Following the appearances of the previously reported model, here comes the GX500 model. A thinner breed with the same fourth generation of Intel Core i7 CPU. According to reports, it is treated with 4K NX500 display technology.

However, that screen technology has been claimed by Toshiba as the first manufacturer to introduced a full high-definition (HD) resolution to a maximum level. Sad to say, I cannot compare that portable machine from Japan to compete with Asus GX500.

On the other side, compared to ROG G550JK, Asus GX500 has a unique 19-millimeter thickness which is slightly closer to some Sony's handheld machines in only 2.2-kilogram weight. And guess what, it is also treated with NVidia's GeForce GTX 860M GPU (graphic card) for optimal battery performance paired with Haswell line of processor.

        Asus 15.6-Inch GX500 Gaming Laptop

And somehow, Asus GX500 is a power-efficient gaming laptop which is now in Computex 2014 to tease anyone who are waiting for one-of-a-kind console. Some folks compared this model to Razer Blade, the closest rival of Asus 15.6-inch line of entertainment PC.

As expected, this model will probably run a Microsoft Windows 8.1 operating system and apps that will optimized its performance in 4K NX500 (with 3840 x 2160-pixel resolution) technology.

Specs and other important details related to Asus GX500 is not yet available but it is expected to hit the global market for orders by the third quarter (Q3) of this year. And that might be the most exciting part of this story, to know the underlying modules of the thinnest, lightweight, and ultra-portable gaming PC in 2014.

Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 3: New Updates and Features

Samsung introduces a newly updated version of Galaxy Note smartphone following the appearances of Galaxy S5 in stores. According to a reliable source from Italy, the new model are treated with features which are common to what we can get from a 4G LTE-enabled handset. A few improvement has been added through its Android 4.4 (KitKat) platform.

The new version of Samsung Galaxy Note offers a handful of apps which are similar to Samsung Galaxy S5. However, if you expect a more stable model because of its new underlying specs, it is good to wait for the fourth generation of 5.5-inch smartphone for any possible upgrades and changes. You must expect a previously reported specs for the said handset.

Furthermore, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has been added with features coming from Samsung Galaxy S5. That includes a "Baby Mode" which is ideal for kids according to an Italian website (but no words for age range). And this feature is now available for taking advantage the intuition of a smart device to work well with young kids.

Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Android Phones

In addition, aside from being different in terms of name, model, and few supported specs, this version of Samsung Galaxy S3 includes a "Download Booster" for quick and faster downloading of files through any Wi-Fi, 3G, or 4G connections.

Most of these newly added features from Samsung Galaxy S5 will become available few weeks from now in T-Mobile as well in other network providers in United States. And the only disadvantage from a newly updated version, those features consumes a 30MB of additional storage.

You might think that my article is useless but hopefully, this can help you to identify the similar features before the odds. Therefore, we have nothing to worry for any indifference (except for the size of screen, processors, memory sizes and notable original features) among the two Android phone aside from prices, right?
